Bill Payne's
1969 Toronado

69 Toronado 35K .. a true original condition car. Of the 28,494 made in 69 this is number 5160, built the 4th week of Sept. 68 [ 09D] Paint / Top & Trim codes 85-H .. Chestnut Bronze with Burgundy Top and TR 087 Parchment interior. Along with it's original paint and vinyl top,it still retains the spiral shocks and exhaust system along with it's upper Radiator Hose, noting that the clamps were stapled to the hose as an aid in final assembly.

It was purchased in 73 with 18K from the original owner and kept for 28 years, as stated by the sec. owner "driven to Shows and Sunday outings" other wise garaged and covered. Purchased in Aug. of 01 with 33K as the third owner .. Options include, power - seats, trunk release and windows [Easy Eye Tint], cruise control, rear defrost, AC, Am radio and 8-Track. Chrome spider wheels and belted duel white wall tires [a tire up grade in 69]. It is most likely the only one in it's condition and color combination to still exist.

In addition a performance version was available, 400hp 500 ft.lbs.of torque @ 3200 rpm sporting the same cam as the H/O. This car however is equipped with the standard issue engine, 375hp 510 ft. lbs.of torque @ 3000 rpm, delivered to the front wheels through a 3.08 final drive. Even at 4400 hundred lbs. easily enough = = GO to firmly plant you in your seat on the interstate on ramp, and seeing the other side of the century mark is not a problem either.

No posi-traction needed here, with it 60/40 weight ratio, with the 60% on the front wheels. It is more than enough for traction in any weather. With that heavy split up front the Disc brakes dig in and comfortably pull you down safely from speeds [shall we say] above the posted limits. I can only imagine what the performance version would feels like.
