Mick Shoup's
1955 Holiday

"Saddle Shoe" came into my life in February of 1990. I saw an ad in the Rocky Mtn News and went out past Longmont several times to look at the Black and White 1955 Holiday. The first time I saw it, it was parked under a tree and looked pretty sad. Finally, after several months I decided to buy her and paid a grand total of $1300. The drive home was uneventful, except for the fact that I couldn't figured out how to turn on the heater. It took 3 pages in the Owners manual to explain the ventilation system.

Except for 9 months, when I had the 324 engine block and transmission rebuilt; Shamu, as the guys at Auto Wreck call her, she has been on the road going to various shows in Kansas, Nebraska, Texas and Illinois. She certainly is not a Trailer Queen, but I get lots of positive comments from people. I had her repainted in 2000 and decided to go with a Buick option of 3 colors instead of 2. Hey, I paid for the paint job so, why not? My restoration has centered around keeping Saddle Shoe/Shamu as original as possible and it is an ongoing, never ending project of love for that Oldsmobile.
